I have a picture from a magazine of a deck. Can it be built?
Information About Servicing Your Deck
It is known that wood outside will shrink and swell with the
seasons. It will also will crack and split at different times of the
year, a natural occurrence. Severe cracking and splitting should
not be expected unless the wood is left unprotected from the
sunlight, (protection can be provided by deck stains or sealants).
With proper maintenance your structure should last and perform
for years to come.
Some products such as vinyl and exotic hardwoods don't require
chemicals to preserve them and therefore are easier to care for.
A damaged structure not only looks unsightly but could be
dangerous. Rot and insect damage are the biggest enemies.
Leave them unattended and, like any disease, they'll spread to
otherwise good wood nearby. If you spot deterioration at one
point chances are pretty good it's already spread to the underlying
structure. Look closely for rot at joists and surfaces, cracks, split
wood, and light gray discoloration. If you find soft, crumbling
wood, this should be addressed.
If you show us a picture of a deck, dock, rail, trellis, bench, planter,
gazebo, or any other component, we can certainly build it. Also, ask
about the variety of materials to choose from.
How much does a deck cost?
The price of a deck can vary greatly. Things such as size, shape,
height off the ground, types of materials used, extras such as benches
and planters will affect the price. We can usually quote ballpark per
square foot cost figures if a few simple questions can be answered.
Please call for more information.
Can a local handyman service my deck?
The extent of the project would determine this. Usually a local
carpenter can fix minor issues such as replacing single boards or
other quick repairs. If you have further questions please give us a call.
Is a deck or exterior project a good investment?
Most definitely, a new deck in South Florida will add great value to
your home.
Can I put a hot tub on my deck?
Most older decks were not built to accommodate the weight of a hot
tub. We always recommend a strengthening of the framework below
where the tub will go or replacement of a tub support. A tub can also
sit on a concrete pad built into a ground level deck.
Deck Maintenance Tips
Constant exposure to UV rays and rain can cause neglected
decks to fade, crack, split and warp. Not only does a properly
maintained deck looks better, but it also lasts longer.
Deck maintenance takes 2 to 3 days to complete and there is no
rain in the forecast .
For Pressure Treated Wood a sealant and on a hardwood deck,
an oil can be applied which can be purchased from our website.
